Dear Oxygen-Carbon-Hydrogen and Nitrogen Life Forms,
We moved to San Jose in April 2016.It has taken some time but we have been able to build out a wonderful community in Silicon Valley.
There are too many things wrong with the world today but as my parents instilled in me “Many hands lighten the load.”
Housing and Homelessness are large problems throughout this nation and are particularly troubling in San Jose.So what can we do?Jump off a building!!!
Downtown Streets Team provide homeless and low-income men and women with the resources they need to rebuild their lives. To fight homelessness, Downtown Streets Team combines compassionate and innovative leadership with collaboration between the private sector, government agencies, social service agencies, and most importantly, our community. Homelessness is a complex issue that is too big for any single agency to address, so we value our strong partner network and are always looking for new partnerships to make sure all of our stakeholders are represented.
Roughly 45% of all homeless veterans are African American or Hispanic, despite only accounting for 10.4% and 3.4% of the U.S. veteran population, respectively.
This is more than close to home because this could have been my father. My father is a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran and has received several accommodations including 1 Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Purple Hearts.
To raise awareness and money for what the Downtown Streets Team does day-in and day-out, I will be jumping off the side of the Adobe Building with all the necessary rappelling gear to land safely and go home to my family.
I want to raise a minimum of $4,932 which represent the address to the home where my father started his first recovery ministry called the Hutson House.
Please help me jump off a building and put money in the Downtown Streets Team bank account!
